
Click the Insert tab and choose the Symbol button (in the Symbols group). To access the symbol dialog box, first click where you would like the symbol to be placed.

Just hit the undo button right after you type the (c) and it will revert back to the (c) instead of the ©. It can be frustrating if you are really trying to type a (c) and keep getting the © symbol. Try typing the letters C, T, or R enclosed in parentheses, such as (c).
